The Fiscal Effects of Foreign Aid in Ethiopia

Now a day unsustainable fiscal policies in developing countries are the main concern because sustained budget deficits and large stocks of public debt are the main sources of persistent poverty in the developing countries. For a long period of time there is a growing gap between the developed and developing countries. This gap has led to constant capital inflow (foreign aid) from the developed countries to those in the least developed countries. Foreign aid affects the fiscal behaviour of governments through on tax effort and borrowing in addition to effects on the allocation of expenditures. Owing to this, the study tries to examine the effects of aid inflows on the government fiscal behavior, such as, taxation, borrowing and the allocation of expenditure in Ethiopia. By using a time series data with the application of Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and impulse response analysis the study try to show long term impact of aid on the fiscal behavior of the government of Ethiopia.

The Role of Institutional Entrepreneurship in Standard Wars

The research question in this book is: How can an institutional perspective complement a functional perspective to understand the process underlying collective action in a mature eco-system? Rather than functionalist’s viewpoint, this study adopts the perspective of organisational institutionalism. Standards share attributes with institutions, and that standard wars share attributes with processes of institutionalisation, where the processes connote the meaning of competition between different existing institutions and new ideas. The study focuses on the means by which focal firms succeed as institutional entrepreneurs in standard wars against competitors who have held leading and dominant positions in the previous institutional arrangements, resulting from victories in previous standard wars in the relevant technological field. The study demonstrates the importance of critical stakeholders and discursive activities. Further, it contributes the importance of the relevant practices…

Sustainable competitive strategies

This book is focused on a very successful private hospital group which consists of thirteen acute hospitals in Switzerland. This case study analyses the current strategic position and evaluates sustainable strategies to remain highly competitive also in a more dynamic market. Swiss health care is confronted with fundamental changes. On the one hand, there are increasing costs in patient treatments caused by innovative technology with new high-capacity medical devices. On the other hand, hospitals will have decreasing revenues with the introduction of the new patient classification and tariff system DRG by 2012. Invariably, the implementation of DRGs exerts pressure on hospitals to increase their level of effectiveness and efficiency, to reduce their costs related to patient treatment, and to optimize their health care processes. Due to the higher rivalry in future, hospitals are forced to choose an effective strategic orientation and to develop an appropriate strategy to remain…

Formal and Informal Credit Markets Linkage

In a multi-agency delivery mechanism of provision of credit, institutional credit is characterized by persistent excess demand as credits from these institutions are subsidized. In this situation, horizontal interlinkage resulted in spilling over of the excess demand for credit from the formal to the informal credit sources. Again another form of interaction is known as vertical interlinkage where informal lenders are viewed as having access to formal sources of lending, and the funds thus borrowed are then re-lent. An attempt has been made in the study to examine the implications of such linkages on achieving financial inclusion in the context of Indian economy. The interlinkage between formal and informal credit markets has also important implications to monetary policy as it is observed that the absence of any interlinkage implies weakening of the monetary policy as an effective tool. This book is expected to satisfy the needs of the students and scholars of Economics, Commerce and…
